When I heard the sentence it resonated inside of me and it gave me hope that I hadn’t had for a very long time. Even though I didn’t know fully what it meant, I knew it was what my business was missing. You see I was in a pit, and ready to just give up.

My Story. My mess becomes my message...
In my experience, many people have heard the sentence. It's not new. I heard it for the first time over 25 years ago. Difference is, most people never stop, think, and take action to work on their business. Stop working in your business, and go to work on it. "Go to work on what?" - they should stop and say. Perhaps because of the pit I was in, and so near to throwing in the towel - the truth rocked me, and I took action.
I became an E-Myth guy!
Teleseminars were pretty cutting-edge back then, so I thought it was pretty cool to be in a weekly call with 12 other small business people like me from all over the country. No one else had a live plant leasing company like mine, but it didn't matter, the principles were universal. Our E-Myth coach gave us assignments each week to go to work On our business. We were taught to think about our businesses in a new way. "Your business is a franchise prototype model,” she would say. The big lesson? The best businesses are the ones that can create a predictable experience. Listen, predictable for the customer, and predictable for the business owner. Yes, I was skeptical too, but I dutifully went to work On my business anyways.

The mental shift took a little time, “I’m not just an employee in my own business.” But, OHH when I started to get it - amazing things started happening. I saw my business transform from chaos, disorder and frustration, to a business I really loved. I loved it, because it was working. The transformation, the giant leap forward happened, because I went to work on creating systems. The transformation from where I was, to the lifestyle I have now is crazy. Crazy good! My first huge lifestyle shift was spending the better part of the summer in the mountains of North Carolina. The place to be in July and August, especially if you're from Southwest Florida like me. Yes, that was huge, but everything about my business got better.
